Have a question about stethoscopes?

You may find the answer in our FAQs:

The best way to ensure you are purchasing an authentic Littmann® Stethoscope is by ordering from a Littmann Authorized Dealer featured on our Littmann.com Where To Buy page.

Part of our commitment to your success as a caregiver is combatting the selling and manufacturing of counterfeit Littmann stethoscopes. Why? Because we know there’s a lot on the line. Your patients count on you to accurately monitor, assess and diagnose their ailments. Missing a vital piece of information could hamper their care and recovery. Plus, having the most accurate information about your patients will help you provide better care, but using a counterfeit Littmann stethoscope could hinder your professional growth.

Unfortunately, spotting a counterfeit isn’t always easy, and there is no way to determine the authenticity of your stethoscope without sending it to Littmann for inspection, but understanding the warning signs can help. These include:

  • A limited selection. Littmann Authorized Dealers carry a broad range of Littmann stethoscopes, including different models with a range of finishes and tubing colors.
  • Counterfeiters appear on e-commerce platforms for a short time. This makes it less likely the seller will be responsive or have reviews. It also means that there probably isn’t much information available on the seller. Littmann Authorized Dealers are knowledgeable and helpful. They’ll be responsive and help guide you to find the right Littmann stethoscope.
  • Counterfeiters rely on deals, speed and often omit markings or misspell words. If the price sounds “too good to be true,” it probably is. We take pride in creating high-performance stethoscopes with outstanding acoustics. This craftsmanship takes time and has value—finding a substantial discount should be a concern.
  • Assess the quality of your new stethoscope. Does it look okay when it arrives? Can you hear sounds (remember, earpieces should point forward toward your face)? Are any parts falling off?

We’re sorry to hear you are having problems with your stethoscope. Below is the process if you’d like to send your stethoscope to our service center for inspection and/or repair.

  • Visit our Warranty and Repairs page.
  • Click the button for Warranty and Service Request Tool.
  • You will need to put in your serial number which is located on the chestpiece of your stethoscope.
  • Click the “Look up” button.
  • Continue to fill out the form, print it, and send it with your stethoscope to the address provided on the form. You can use a padded envelope to send it in. It takes approximately 2 weeks to get it back. Print the mailing label at the end of the form.

If your stethoscope is out of warranty, the cost to repair and refurbish will be on the form. If you are asked to pay, list “refurbish” so they can clean the scope and replace any needed parts. It may add another 1 or 2 year warranty to the stethoscope (depending on the model).

Ship the stethoscope to: 3M Service Center, 3350 Granada Ave. N. Suite 200, Oakdale, MN 55128.

Please note, some discontinued models are no longer eligible for repair, including: Cardiology II, Cardiology II SE, STC, Classic II, 3000, 3100/3200, 4000. Please note, repairs to any discontinued models are subject to parts inventory.

In 2020, Littmann introduced a new tubing formulation designed to resist premature cracking. The new standard tubing formulation has a softer feel and a glossy finish, which some customers have perceived as feeling “tacky."

Additionally, stickiness can be a noticeable artifact out of the box that can be exacerbated by environmental factors, such as high temperature and humidity during shipping and storage before purchase, but can be easily improved by cleaning the tubing. Tacky or sticky tubing does not adversely affect the acoustic performance of the stethoscope. We recommend cleaning standard tubing with an alcohol wipe to remove any residue. Regular cleaning of the tubing will help prevent recurrence of this effect.

If the tackiness persists, please contact the Littmann Service Center at 1-800-292-6298, option 1.

Please visit our Warranty and Repairs page, then select the Warranty and Service Request Tool option.

Enter your serial number, which is located on the chestpiece of your stethoscope, then press "Look up”. The date shown will be the date of manufacture and the date the warranty expires. If your purchase date was later and you have a receipt that shows it is still under warranty, give us a call so we can instruct you about removing the charge for any parts or repairs.
